December Open Board MEETING

Please join us for the final meeting of December 2011.  We are enthusiastic about what the year next year will bring.  2011 was very instrumental laying the groundwork for a strong, yet joyful 2012, and our hope is you will be pleased with what it brings for all Alumni.

Those members who wish to pay their 2012 membership dues may bring payment to the meeting and will receive a small appreciation gift with payment.

Guest Speakers for 2012

Your suggestions for CPAAAS activities and guest speakers for 2012 are always welcome.  So far, we have honored guests State Rep. Michelle Mussman in March opening for a Self-defense class, as well as Lt. Jack Schneidwind of the Schaumburg Fire Department to share his insight from assisting the first responders of New York’s Ground Zero in the immediate days that followed Sept. 11, 2001.

In addition, last month, SPD Chief Brian Howerton was kind enough to clear his calendar one afternoon, to brainstorm on areas that would be of interest to our Alumni for continuing CPA education with guest speakers.  The afternoon was a great success, and my hope is that you too - have enjoyed speaking with him at not only our November meeting, but his wonderful surprise appearance at the “Adopt a Family Wrap Party,” and traditional CPA Graduation.  He truly is making himself available to us to ensure our future success!   His engagement with our Alumni is making a powerful impact on us already.  J And for that, we are extremely grateful.

Donations to the Chicagoland Dog Rescue may begin Dec. 14!  J

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are proud to announce the launch of our new partnership with the Chicagoland Dog Rescue (CDR).  With the CPA Graduation Donation honoring our dear Alumni Jim Townsend, Ret. Canine Officer “Thunder,” and newly sworn in officer “ Majic,” if you could not make it, there was a spectacular outpowering of generosity from members old and new under the Christmas tree for the dogs.  Luann and Dirk of the CDR are such kind, giving people that they were extremely touched by our generosity and could not say thank you enough.  This is going to be a meaningful partnership for us all the way around.   Many thanks to Betty Hlad for her Angel Fund request for CDR which inspired this amazing opportunity! J

Donations to the Food Pantry- have concluded for 2011

With the historical donation to The Township Food Pantry honoring our dear friend John Mydlach, we have concluded this monthly meeting donation.  We will begin a new donation partnership with them in 2012 in a different capacity, and look forward to sharing that with everyone at the meeting.  Thank you all for your tireless monthly dedication to this effort!

Angel Fund Donations – (Year End / Tax Free donations)

With yearend distributions behind us, it is time to rebuild for the future.

This year we have helped so many wonderful deserving people, causes and opportunities.  It is because of the Alumni that came before us, who had the foresight to create this generous opportunity to reinvest in our Law Enforcement Officers and Schaumburg Community.  Just a few are:

o    “Guns (PD) vs. Hoses(FD)” Fundraiser Event for “Little Gino” Mazzulla Fund – in memory of 5 year old son of Romeoville Firefighter Eugenio Mazzulla/nephew of Schaumburg business employee Carmelina Mazzulla, May 14 (many thanks to all Alumni who donated as well.)

o   Flowers for 3rd Anniversary of Fallen Officer Frank Russo, Nov. 1

o    “John Mydlach” Schaumburg Township Food Pantry

o   Northwest Corridor Chaplain Services (Rev. Eaton)

o    “Majic/ Jim Townsend” Chicagoland Dog Rescue

o    “Thunder / Jim Townsend” Chicagoland Dog Rescue

o     “Care Trak” Alzhiemers Resident of VOS

Remember, we are a registered nonprofit with the State of Illinois, and welcome all donations to which our Treasurer will provide a receipt.  Most employers have a donation “match” program, so please check with your Human Resources department if we qualify.

In addition, numerous corporations have grants or foundations which award dollars to nonprofit organizations which meet specific criteria under their mission statement.  We would be extremely appreciative if you would like to research that as well as January 1 is around the corner when 2012 dollars become available upon request.

Finally, please know the Board is diligently working to maximize our SBA benefits to increase the awareness of our Angel Fund award generosity - to then become award recipients ourselves.
Schaumburg hosts a wealth of caring business communities and we are networking with them as we speak.

CPAAAS Awards Northwest Corridor Chaplaincy Services from Angel Fund

To know Chaplain Eaton is to love him.  What he does, what he stands for and how far his reach extends.

So when it came to Angel Fund final Year End "Reinvesting into our Community Programs / Police Department Programs," the BIG BIG BIG one that came to the minds of all Board members was remembering the Non Profit Agency of the Northwest Coridor Chaplaincy Services where Chaplain Eaton performs his greatest works of comfort.

If you attended the CPA Class Wed. Nov. 2, 2011, you heard guest speaker Chaplain Eaton of the Northwest Corridor Chaplaincy Services share his countless PD, EMS, and FD experiences / contributions with the 30th Class of the Schaumburg Citizens Police Academy and you would understand this year end support.

We are so blessed to have this Service available to our agencies.  Thank you Chaplain Eaton for all you do.

Warm regards,

Theresa Plazewski, President

CPAAAS Sponsors Village Seniors for SPD Care Trak Transmitter

Late last month, the CPAAAS Board of Directors were respectfully requested by the SPD, to sponsor Village of Schaumburg senior citizens on a fixed income for a SPD Program.  The Program is called  the Care Trak Transmitter, and is available to those in need due to various health reasons.

Diagnosed with advanced Alzheimers, one of the seniors in this couple cannot be left alone.

Obtaining a Care Trak bracelet for his wife to aid us in finding her should she wander off due to her disease, was a great decision for CPAAAS to sponsor the couple who is on a fixed (social security) income and would have great difficulty paying the dollars for the transmitter.

Because this request completely met all of the Angel Fund criteria for support, CPAAAS and the Angel Fund sponsored the Village Seniors with a check for $246.00 to Care Trak to cover the transmitter usage.

Here again, are our Angel Fund dollars being reinvested in our community!

All the best-

Theresa Plazewski
