Septemberfest CPAAAS Volunteers Still Needed

Hi Everyone,

(Please contact Alice if you can volunteer)

This coming weekend is Septemberfest.  This is an important event for the Schaumburg Police Department and they depend on CPAAAS to assist them with staffing all three days.  There are 45 volunteer positions we need to fill and we still have many openings.  We need everyone’s assistance to make this event a success.  If you are able to volunteer this weekend, please read further and reply ASAP

Sgt Nebl has requested CPAAAS volunteers to assist the Schaumburg Police Department with Septemberfest in two capacities:  1. Assisting in the Schaumburg Police Department Crime Prevention booth/tent.  The volunteers in the booth/tent will operate the button machine (making buttons/pins for the children), fingerprint children with the kits provided, and assist Sgt Nebl on Saturday and Monday and Paula Diaz on Sunday handing out Crime Prevention Materials & give-away items and assisting with the Special Olympics merchandise.  2.  Staffing the Command Post.  The Command Post is in the Prairie Arts Center near the booth/tent.  An information table will be set up in the lobby of Prairie Arts and that table will be staffed by one police officer and one CPAAAS volunteer (and possibly a fest committee member).  The duties for the CPAAAS volunteer at the command post will include: assisting the police officer stationed at the table near the ticket window in the Command Center, checking all bathroom passes and only allow people to use the rest rooms on the south end of the building just past the theater and not allow anyone to walk past the table unless they are a village official or a Septemberfest member wearing fest polo shirts, and answering any basic fest related questions (what time are the fireworks, where is the main stage etc.).

Both positions will require wearing a CPAAAS shirt/sweatshirt, name badge, and dark pants, capris, or walking shorts.  We are in need of a lot of volunteers for a lot of hours over the 3 day weekend event this coming weekend.  This is a huge event for the SPD and CPAAAS to staff and we are asking everyone to please assist as much as possible.

The volunteer times that still have openings are listed below (See “Volunteer Times”).  Please review and when replying, please refer to the bold number (1-21)in front of the times.  Since the event is coming up this coming weekend, I need to get some information from you so I can attempt to schedule everyone and fulfill all of the volunteer needs requested by the SPD.  So, please reply ASAP, so I can complete the schedule and get the confirmation of times to everyone at the beginning of the week (Monday or Tuesday).

Please reply to the following with the bold numbers from the “Volunteer Times below:

CPAAAS President Mid Year Review

Hoffman Estates CPAAA & Schaumburg CPAAAS connect!

I hope this finds you well.

This week I had the amazing opportunity to meet with the Vice President of the Hoffman Estates Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Leigh Bartkowiak.

Leigh contacted me as a result of volunteering with our Alumni at ILEETA this April, and we had the chance to sit down and share ideas on Fundraising, Guest Speakers, and ways to blend our organizations due to our neighboring communities.  This was also the ideal opportunity to make introductions to Leigh with our brilliant new colleagues in Rockford - CAP Coordinator Joe Owens, and the Gurnee CPAAA President Ron Crook.

Leigh has many contacts in our Village and was kind enough to come to our beautiful community to visit with me.  We learned that Hoffman Estates has not only their Alumni Association but an EMA group she spoke very highly of.     Hmmmm......

Leigh also share our heartfelt interest in supporting Canine Officers, and the program we are so dedicated to with our Canine awareness program especially since we received the outstanding Motorola Grant.  Hoffman Estates had 3 Canine Officers and now is down to only one, but her hope is they will raise funds to support at least 2 or maybe even 3 again.

Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, Gurnee, and Rockford are looking to the near future to work together to support each other in not only fundraising efforts, but public service as well.  Our hope is to support each other where we can to maintain the presence of our organizations and share best practices to remain strong through the challenges we face as non profit organizations.

Leigh and I agreed that because the Township Food Pantry supports not only Schaumburg, but Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove and Streamwood, it was important to try to work together on an opportunity to have CPAAAS Food Pantry Ambassador Laura Collins see if there was an opportunity to receive any of their Alumni's uncut / unused coupons.  It all goes to the same place at the end of the day, and this will enable Laura to maximize her efforts and our CPAAAS annual Food Pantry donation even more.  CPAAAS is so thankful for Leigh's willingness to be open to this opportunity for the Food Pantry!  :)

Watch for additional communication to come through for opportunities to work together!  Especially with the Holiday week upon us!

All the best-

Theresa Plazewski,

CPAAAS President #5
