CPAAAS Meeting January 14, 2013 Agenda

Welcome CPAAAS Members
January 14, 2013
New start time to socialize before our meeting will be at 6:30 PM and the meeting to start at 7:00 PM. Good opportunity to talk with the Board and with your friends.
We survived the Mayan prediction that there would be a change due to their calendar ending on December 21, 2012. Maybe this is the start date of changes. This is different… no snow yet, it’s been over 300 days since we last had any measurable snow. What will be next?
Speaker this month is David Zorich who will be giving a demo on self defense. Mr. Zorich is a member of the Shindo Kan School of Judo. I’d like to thank Bill Flesch for inviting David Zorich for coming to speak to our members today.

Here is a recap on inviting a speaker.
Any member can invite a speaker to come to our meetings. So this is your opportunity to invite someone. When you talk with them and they agree to speak, tell them you will get back with them on which days are available.
Here are some thoughts you may consider when you talk with them.
·         What is the subject they will be talking on?
·         How much time do they need? Usually an hour is the average time.
·         Will they be selling anything? Need to know this before they are scheduled.
·         Note:  that all speakers do not get paid to speak to the members.
·         Will they have hand handouts for the members?
·         Will they be using Power Point in their presentation?
·         Will they be giving out gifts?
·         As a special presentation you can introduce your speaker to the members (we are here to help you with this, if you want).

Septemberfest CPAAAS Volunteers Still Needed

Hi Everyone,

(Please contact Alice if you can volunteer)

This coming weekend is Septemberfest.  This is an important event for the Schaumburg Police Department and they depend on CPAAAS to assist them with staffing all three days.  There are 45 volunteer positions we need to fill and we still have many openings.  We need everyone’s assistance to make this event a success.  If you are able to volunteer this weekend, please read further and reply ASAP

Sgt Nebl has requested CPAAAS volunteers to assist the Schaumburg Police Department with Septemberfest in two capacities:  1. Assisting in the Schaumburg Police Department Crime Prevention booth/tent.  The volunteers in the booth/tent will operate the button machine (making buttons/pins for the children), fingerprint children with the kits provided, and assist Sgt Nebl on Saturday and Monday and Paula Diaz on Sunday handing out Crime Prevention Materials & give-away items and assisting with the Special Olympics merchandise.  2.  Staffing the Command Post.  The Command Post is in the Prairie Arts Center near the booth/tent.  An information table will be set up in the lobby of Prairie Arts and that table will be staffed by one police officer and one CPAAAS volunteer (and possibly a fest committee member).  The duties for the CPAAAS volunteer at the command post will include: assisting the police officer stationed at the table near the ticket window in the Command Center, checking all bathroom passes and only allow people to use the rest rooms on the south end of the building just past the theater and not allow anyone to walk past the table unless they are a village official or a Septemberfest member wearing fest polo shirts, and answering any basic fest related questions (what time are the fireworks, where is the main stage etc.).

Both positions will require wearing a CPAAAS shirt/sweatshirt, name badge, and dark pants, capris, or walking shorts.  We are in need of a lot of volunteers for a lot of hours over the 3 day weekend event this coming weekend.  This is a huge event for the SPD and CPAAAS to staff and we are asking everyone to please assist as much as possible.

The volunteer times that still have openings are listed below (See “Volunteer Times”).  Please review and when replying, please refer to the bold number (1-21)in front of the times.  Since the event is coming up this coming weekend, I need to get some information from you so I can attempt to schedule everyone and fulfill all of the volunteer needs requested by the SPD.  So, please reply ASAP, so I can complete the schedule and get the confirmation of times to everyone at the beginning of the week (Monday or Tuesday).

Please reply to the following with the bold numbers from the “Volunteer Times below:

  1. I could be available for the following (please indicate ALL of your availability):
