Current Newsletter - January 2010 General/Open BOD Meeting

January 21, 2010

Our guest speaker at the General Meeting tonight was Toshiko Lukens.  Toshiko has worked for the Secretary of State’s office since 1984 and is currently involved in many aspects of Traffic Safety for the office including the creation and editing of Traffic Safety brochures and other materials.

Toshi has also been on the CDL Board for the State of IL and continues to serve as the liaison on various safety committees.  She provides training and educational programs on DUI laws for law enforcement, officers of the court and the public and assists the Secretary of State Police traffic safety programs to businesses and schools.

Some of the many topics Toshi discussed at our meeting were Gradual DL, Permanent Record Violations, Zero Tolerance Law, Fake IDs, illegal transportation of alcohol, cell phone usage and the BAIID breathalyzer test were among the highlights.

Toshi also recommended that we all check out the following website to list your ‘next of kin’ in case you are ever in a serious car accident, www.cyberdriveillinois.com.   Click on Emergency Contact Database near the bottom of the page.  I just completed my Emergency contact info and it was very easy!  Take a minute and register your next of kin to be notified, too.

I have to say that Toshi’s presentation was extremely interesting and she was a wealth of knowledge.  I know the Alumni in attendance appreciated her time with us.  It was also nice to see that Chief Brian Howerton attended our meeting, too.
