Bio for Mr. Joseph J. Truncale
Joseph J. Truncale is a retired police officer, who has worked in all areas of law enforcement with the Glenview, Illinois, Police Department. His special expertise is in the police defensive tactics, police weapons, officer survival, citizen self defense, and martial art fields. He has designed numerous officer survival courses and has taught police and security officers from around the world at international conferences.
A lifetime student of the martial arts, Mr. Truncale has earned Black Belts in numerous systems, including Karate (3rd Dan Shotokan), Judo (3rd Dan Kodokan) Jujitsu (8th Dan Bushi Satori Ryu), and Kobudo (3rd Dan Use of Martial Art Weapons). With more than 35 years' experience in the police and martial arts fields, he is fortunate to have studied with some of the very best police and martial arts instructors.
Mr. Truncale is also one of the founding directors of ASLET. He is a certified International Instructor in the Monadnock Defensive Tactics System (MDTS), the PR-24 Police Baton, the Monadnock Expandable/straight Baton system (MEB) and the Persuader Baton, and also serves as an advisory board member with the Monadnock Police Training Council and the Illinois Police Instructor Trainers (IPITA) Association. Mr. Truncale is certified as a Master Instructor in The CLAMP and The GRASP Systems. He is also a member of several professional Police and Martial Art Associations.
Mr. Truncale is the founder of BUSHI SATORI RYU (Warrior Enlightenment School), where he teaches Jujitsu, Karate, self defense, Samurai Aerobics (a Bushi Satori Ryu original course), and the use of 15 martial arts weapons including: The Bo (Jo, Hanbo), Nunchakus, Tonfa, Sai, Kama, Arnis Sticks, Katana, Wakizashi, Tanto, Manrikigusari, Jutte, Naginata, Yari, Yawara stick(s), and Chen.
And not least, with more than 300 papers (articles, reviews, essays, poems) and 30 books/manuals published in the Police and Martial Arts fields, Mr. Truncale is a prodigious writer.
