2009 News Archive Earth Day - 4/17/2009 Earth Day April 18, 2009 As many of you know, CPAAAS has always tried to help the Schaumburg police department and Schaumburg Village in any way we can. As a member, from the beginning, I remember going out for the earth day cleanup. The volunteers went to the village hall, picked their location, got some garbage bags and then went to that site where we picked up garbage. One year we had a conflict with so many things going on that I was the only volunteer to help with this event. This year I asked if we were going to do this and since nobody knew when it was, I looked in to it. It was a little tricky because things changed. The Village was not going out to sites to clean up. Instead, patrons could drop their things off at District 54 where they would have a document destruction truck as well as computer recycling and much more. This I learned by calling the Village and asking if CPAAAS could help. Their response was, yes, they needed some people as they were short handed. I really liked this idea as I have been involved in the recycling business since the early 1970's manufacturing industrial shredders. So I contacted our CPAAAS Volunteer Committee and they jumped in to action as we only had three days to put this together. Our volunteer committee is the best! They sent emails, made phone calls to our members and got the needed help. They also made other calls to find out what exactly was to be done. Some of the things we did were to unload cars and pass out new CFL bulbs. All the volunteers were great and we were asked to help when they do this program again in the fall. So we will have another event to help out with later in the year. Thanks again to all who helped out on this event. Article written by
