2002 CPAAAS News and Information

General Meeting on 1/24/2002 (posted 1/25/2002)

Click here to see a larger picture of Scout Our general meeting on 1/24/2002 was a lot of fun and chocked full of information. Jim Rennhack, the Port Director for the US Dept of Agriculture was our guest speaker and his presentation and patience as we asked a million questions was amazing.

Jim brought "Scout" (a cute beagle) with his handler from the O'Hare inspection team. They conducted demonstrations with Scout on how he finds illegal contraband hidden in luggage. Scout was a hit with the group!

Carson's Community Day and SPD Open House (posted 3/6/2002)

The third annual Schaumburg Police Department Open House took place on March 2nd despite all the snow. We had about 200 people show up compared to 700 last year. The tours took a little longer because there was MORE stuff to see. Poor Cliff worked early that morning and he pretty much relaxed in the garage as the kids arrived to pet him.

Pictures from the open house are here.

The Carsons' Community Day Sale also took place on March 2nd. More information on the Carson's Community Day can be found here.

Citizen Police Academy report on ABC 7 (posted 3/6/2002)

The Citizen Police Academy piece was broadcast on 2/18/2002 on ABC News at 10pm. It was a very nice piece! Captain Carroll has a copy of the report on video and we hope to make it available to CPAAAS. Stay tuned.

From Steven Casstevens:
Thank you all for your help throughout this whole escapade! Our final total profit was $10,350.00. That's $3,450.00 per agency! Nice work!

Original Story:
The Hoffman Estates Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association is raffling a Harley Davidson motorcycle as a fund raiser for the organization. The raffle, which also will benefit CPAAAS as well as the Northwest Corridor Police/Fire Chaplain Association, is being conducted until March 17, 2002 (St. Patrick's Day). The winning ticket will be drawn at the annual St. Patrick's Day celebration in Hoffman Estates. The motorcycle being raffled is a 2001 Harley Davidson Sportster Custom, purchased from Suburban Harley Davidson in Palatine. Only 5,000 tickets will be sold - and are available for $10.00 per ticket or 6 tickets for $50.00. All proceeds will be divided among the three agencies, all of which are 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations.

(Note: The people who cannot purchase raffle tickets are board members of the two CPA Alumni Associations and of the Northwest Corridor Chaplaincy Service.)
