Last Wednesday night, May 11, 2011, was the first Graduation I attended since my own, in the Fall of 2002.

It was everything I remembered and more. The night was not only uplifting, it was electrifying!

Do you remember how cool it was to hang out with the Chief, while you waited your turn to get your picture taken? I did...

And were you thinking “will this really be the last time you see Sgt. Nebl and all the friends you made? Say it isn’t so!!!!” Well, it isn’t... There's this great organization called CPAAAS...

The voices of the graduates echoing what I felt on the night of Graduation sharing the excitement of their ride-alongs, the awe, appreciation, and respect for the officers assigned to them for that one evening/afternoon was something only a Graduate can speak to.

Graduation would not be complete without the Chief and Sgt. Nebl sharing stories with the Graduates of the acts of not only heroism, but the occasional hilarity that comes with the job.

Maybe the next Graduation will host the officers involved in the CPA, to hear firsthand how beloved they have come to be by our community.

Oh, and let’s not forget, ending the evening with an amazing special appearance and demonstration by Officer Bruce Cram and his trusty K9 partner “Thunder”.

My heartfelt thanks go out to all the Alumni present as special guests of mine to recruit new members, to those who assisted with information sharing and serving refreshments to the Graduates. We do take great care of each other in addition to our SPD.

This walk down memory lane on May 11, 2011, reminded me why I am here.

WHY WE are here for the Schaumburg Police Department.

WHO WE ARE - their greatest Champion.

WHAT we strive to be - their strongest silent partner.

Hope to see everyone at the next CPA and Graduation!

Best Regards,
