2006 News

December 12, 2006 –

The next Fuddruckers social gathering will be on Tuesday, January 2nd, at 6:30 p.m.

The January Open Board Meeting will be on Monday, January 8th at 7 p.m..

The next general meeting will be January 25 at 7 p.m. in the police department downstairs classroom.

The Auxiliary Police Program will be the featured topic. –

The Shop with a Cop Program took place on Sunday, December 3rd at the Target on Barrington Road.

It was very successful. Approximately 14 children and their families were served.

I was particularly impressed with the effort Target made.

There were some children approaching the checkout with only practical items such as boots and coats.

Target management sent the children back to shop after deciding to pay for the footwear themselves.

The Gift Wrap gathering was held at Carla’s association clubhouse on December 10th at 5 p.m.

CPAAAS members wrapped presents for those families that had been adopted by CPAAAS.

Many thanks to Carla for arranging for the use of her association clubhouse.

As of this date, we still do not have a newsletter editor.

For the time being, this monthly communiqué will serve as the newsletter.

I will try to include more than just a calendar. -After seven months on the job as corresponding secretary,

I believe that I have a handle on this job. The lone exception still remains me and the internet.

About a month ago, Yahoo fixed their cc-bcc programs to once again allow sending this email to a group of one hundred at a time. I began to repopulate the lists from seven back to two. Somehow, in the process, I deleted the emails of all dues paying members. Once lost, there is no way to retrieve addresses from the address book. I thought I would freak out. Since then, though a variety of means, I have repopulated approximately 75 percent of the original listing. I am sending a first class letter to the remaining 25percent and asking them to email me as soon as possible. If they help me with this, I should be back to full speed by early January. I suspect I will never hit the delete button ever again that relates to the address book. There were approximately thirty names of non-paying dues members in the email data bank. I will try to find their data and reenter it asap. –

Approximately 40% of the 2006 CPAAAS dues paying members have sent in their 2007 dues to date.

If you have been meaning to send yours in, but have misplaced the original form, simply mail a check for ten dollars to

CPAAAS

P.O.Box 681003

Schaumburg, Illinois 60168.

Upon receiving your dues, I will send you a receipt. –

The Fall 2006 CPA Class graduates on December 13th.

The graduates were provided with a folder containing pertinent CPAAAS information last week.

On behalf of CPAAAS, I have been volunteering to bring food to elderly shut-ins as part of the Meals on Wheels Program housed at the Barn in Schaumburg. At first, I was a little hesitant. Many of the recipients are lady seniors and entering their house by myself could have been problematic. As it turned out, my concerns were unwarranted. Many of the shut-ins would like me to sit and chat for the better part of the morning now that they know me some, but that is not possible. They are so appreciative to have food brought to them. If you would like to be placed on an “on call” list to help, let me know at GKClair@sbcglobal.net I am not needed every week and usually deliver to only two or three houses and am finished within an hour. Maps are provided prior to delivery.

CPAAAS Correspondence Secretary

Latest CPAAAS News

Earlier, I shared with you that Paula Emerson, of the Schaumburg

Police Department, is looking for CPAAAS members to help the “Meals

on Wheels” program on Saturday mornings. I have more details. The

Saturday morning shift is typically around two hours. Paula does not

expect to have individuals commit to a long term assignment. Rather,

if you are available on any given Saturday or a series of Saturdays,

call Paula at the police station with your availability. She will

take it from there. Her number is 1-847-348-7274

Many thanks to Pamela Nelson, who has been the CPAAAS newsletter

editor for the past two years. Pamela is resigning after putting the

final touches on the October newsletter. CPAAAS is looking for an

individual to take Pamela’s place as newsletter editor. The

newsletter is distributed four times a year. The editor serves as a

clearing house for CPAAAS information/event details/etc. and then

packages the information in a newsletter format. Gary Clair then

receives the newsletter, takes it to the printer, and has it copied.

He then mails the newsletter to dues paying members via first class

mail.

Cheryl Channic was the featured speaker last night at the CPAAAS

General Meeting. She was excellent! The fourteen CPAAAS members in

attendance were treated to a wealth of information on the best ways

to thwart identity thieves and also were able to learn if the State

of Illinois had any of their money. One CPAAAS member learned that

there was indeed money in Springfield for her to claim.

You will receive via email today, the form to use when you remit your

2007 CPAAAS dues. Thank you for

your continued membership.

Sincerely,

Gary Clair

Correspondence Secretary

Greetings:

This communiqué is arriving later than usual due to technical difficulties at Yahoo.

They have been working on their email issues for two weeks. I have decided to

populate seven new lists of twenty-five addresses. Yahoo will allow for lists of

twenty five to qualify as a Bcc. I will need to send out seven emails

(no more than one each half hour) each time we have information for you. If you

receive more than one email from me at one time, please send me an email back

so that I can correct the listings. With seven listings, I may have entered duplicate

names. I just wish I was a techy guru. Maybe there was an easier way to

circumvent their problems. Pat Z., Pauline W., Maureen G., Geneva B., John M.,

Joan C., and I and collated 34 CPA ring binders on Saturday, September 16, from

1:00-6:30 p.m.. The binders were provided to fall CPA members this past Wednesday.

Monday 9/11/06

Greetings CPAAAS Members,

I learned this evening that the Fall CPA ring binder manuals will be

put together this coming Saturday (9/16) at 1 p.m. in the police

Community room. Not having helped with this in the past, I was

curious as to how big a task this project really is and learned that

this could well be a six or seven hour project.

I also learned that a few people have done a great deal of work on

this project in the past. It seems that there cannot be too many to

help on this project. Might you have a few hours that you could spend

helping with this manual compilation? Thirty five people have signed

up for the Fall CPA. This will be a big class and as a result, many

manuals have to be put together.

If you can help, please call John Mydlack on his cell phone. He can

be reached at 847-606-6317.

Please help if you can.

Thanks,

Gary Clair

National Peace Officer Memorial Day
The Schaumburg Police Department will join in the observation of this year

annual National Peace Officer's Memorial Day.

Congress and the President of the United States has designated May 15

as Peace Officer's Memorial Day and the week in which May 15 falls is

National Police Week (May14-20, 2006). Last year the Schaumburg Police Department

celebrated this honorable occasion with a ceremony at the Public Safety Building.

The celebration included the posting of colors by the Schaumburg Police Department Honor Guard,

Prayer by the Police Department Chaplain, singing of the National Anthem by a local high school student,

reading of a Proclamation by village officials, Peace Officer Prayer Readings,

Recognition of Officers Killed in the Line of Duty - Peace Officer Roll Call,

bugler playing "Taps" and Bag Pipes playing for those fallen officers.

Immediately after the ceremony a cake and coffee reception was held in the

Public Safety Buildings Community Room.

Observation of Peace Officer's Memorial Day will remain much the same this year except with the addition of an Honorary Guest (Schaumburg family who lost their police son in the line of duty in another state ).

The ceremony will be held on the front steps of the Martin J. Conroy Public Safety Building,

1000 West Schaumburg Road, on Monday, May 15, 2006 at 2:00PM.

Schaumburg Village officials will be in attendance as will Police Department members, Fire Department members,

and other Village employees from various sections of the village government.

The ceremony and observation is open to all. We encourage our community members to attend

and be part of this special and honorable day. If you plan on attending, contact Paula Emerson,
